Women around the world set agenda for UN meeting on migration!

The Women and Migration Caucus is pleased to announce the launch of a global advocacy document for the upcoming United Nations General Assembly High Level Dialogue on Migration and Development (HLD), to be held in New York on 3-4 October.   It is now available in English, French and Spanish.  Please use this document as an advocacy tool with your government representatives as they prepare for the HLD.

Beyond the many issues of accountability and action raised in the document, we also specifically request that member states speak out in the HLD, calling for a five year action plan on global migration emerging from the HLD that involves civil society, and addresses gender concerns.

This document represents the voices and concerns of hundreds of women around the globe.  These concerns were gathered from a global network of over 300 advocates from all regions of the world and the Women and Migration Caucus of the UN Civil Society Interactive Hearings for the HLD in July 2013. It draws on the outcomes of six regional civil society High Level Dialogue preparatory events organized by the Global Coalition on Migration, which took place in May and June 2013.  Contributions have also come from the women and migration caucuses at the 5th World Social Forum on Migration in Manila 2012; the UN Commission on the Status of Women, New York 2013, and the UN Commission on Population and Development, New York 2013.

This document has sought to be a participatory and inclusive representation of voices from many different communities.  The contributions from organizations and individuals from all regions around the world have ensured that this document reflects a global outlook on women and migration.

This should serve as a global advocacy document for the UN HLD, October 3-4 2013 in New York and beyond. Please disseminate this document widely, make sure to send to all your communication and network channels, email to your list serves, and post to social media outlets.

In the next weeks leading up to the HLD, please use this document to advocate to your governments so that women’s voices can be heard!
