UN Women and WIMN Side Event at GFMD

UN Women and the Women in Migration Network (WIMN) will host a side event at the Tenth Global Forum for Migration and Development, Common Space on Friday, 30 June in Berlin on Strategic Approaches for a Gender- Responsive Global Compact for Migration.

UN Women together with experts from the Committee on Migrant Workers (CMW), the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW Committee), the Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD), the Office for the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the International Labour Organization (ILO), the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Women in Migration Network (WIMN) have developed Recommendations for Addressing Women’s Human Rights in the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (the “Recommendations”). In addition to participating in this process, WIMN has also elaborated key points for consideration in the global compact.

The side event will share key elements of the Recommendations. The Event will also discuss strategic, innovative and collaborative approaches to ensure the incorporation of a gender perspective into the global compact on migration goes beyond commitments just on paper and translates into practical and concrete action. The event also aims to strengthen capacity and accountability of stakeholders to promote the rights of women in migration in the development and implementation of the global compact.

Ms. Carolina Gottardo, Women in Migration Network will moderate the session.  Speakers include:
