In June 2023 WIMN launched its new pilot program, Leadership in Global Advocacy or “LIGA” to help strengthen grassroots voices in international migrant rights advocacy. The program aims to create a strong, participatory, collective process that enhances leadership and skills while building more powerful relationships and alliances.
During the 6-month-long pilot, WIMN provided a virtual space for active listening and peer learning–a “popular education” approach incorporating lived experiences. For this pilot program, four Spanish-speaking organizations were selected from applicants. Through their participation, they contributed to WIMN’s analyses, policy positions and advocacy actions on key issues–particularly towards shaping a feminist, intersectional advocacy agenda on human rights of women in migration. Each organization received a monthly stipend to support their participation.
WIMN hopes to continue the program on an annual basis, broadening outreach and capacity to support groups in various regions and with different languages. The pilot was supported through a grant from Robert Bosch Stiftung.
Participants in the LIGA pilot program included:
ACCSS — Asociación Coordinadora Communitaria de Servicios para la Salud (Guatemala)
CAFAMI – Centro de Atención a la Familia Migrante Indígena (Mexico)
ODA — Otros Dreams en Acción (Mexico)
Red Latinas – Red de Mujeres Latinoamericanas y del Caribe (Spain)
A second round of LIGA was launched in 2024, with another four organizations from four different countries and regions:
