In November 2023, WIMN — in collaboration with WEDO and other allies — organised the first of four cross-sectoral dialogues: Climate, Gender and Migration: Realities and Feminist Responses. We are planning three more such dialogues throughout the rest of 2024.
We are very happy to share this graphic summary (links to the full graphic below) that captures the highlights from this first dialogue. The summary was produced by WIMN and WEDO, and draws from the work of DIVA for Equality, the Women and Gender Constituency, Feminist Action Nexus for Economic and Climate Justice and generations of feminist activists working for climate justice, primarily in the global Majority. The graphic summary is available in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.
This dialogue began with an overview from Katie Tobin from WEDO, on how the Climate Crisis intersects with existing gender inequities. Gabriela Cunha and Laura Ostos from RESAMA; Mariama Williams; Laura Baron Mendoza from MADRE; Denise Carachure from IMUMI; and Berenice Valdez, representing the Red Mesoamericana Mujer Salud y Migración, shared specific cases to explore the intersections between climate crisis and women´s mobility, and feminist strategies of resistance.
The graphic includes gender gaps around the world and emerging demands towards feminist, climate, and economic and migration justice. It also includes questions for exploring intersectional, gendered and human rights impacts of the climate crisis.
