No excuse for violence against migrant women. Migr No excuse for violence against migrant women.
Migrant women carry stories of resilience, hope, and survival, but they are too often met with discrimination, exploitation, and gender-based violence. As the 16 Days of Activism come to a close, we stand with migrant women and reaffirm that their rights are human rights.
There is no excuse for violence, only the urgency to act, support, and advocate.
But violence is not only physical.
When migrant women face online gender-based violence, the path to justice is systematically blocked by institutional failures. Social media reporting systems often fail to recognize abuse shaped by cultural background, language barriers, and migration status, resulting in dismissed complaints and silenced survivors.
Legal recourse becomes even more complex. Cross-border jurisdiction issues, fear of visa retaliation, and a lack of specialized legal aid create an environment where seeking justice feels impossible. This systemic impunity sends a dangerous message: that online attacks against migrant women are beyond accountability.
WIMN demands stronger cross-border cooperation and harmonized legislation to hold online abusers accountable, no matter where they are located.
We call for mandatory, trauma-informed training for law enforcement to ensure that digital violence against migrant women and girls is recognized, taken seriously, and addressed with urgency.
As we conclude the 16 Days of Activism, let’s continue to amplify voices, demand justice, and ensure that every migrant woman is protected online and offline.
The campaign ends today, but our commitment must go on.

Migration externalization exposes women, girls, an Migration externalization exposes women, girls, and gender-diverse people to heightened risks of GBV and unsafe conditions.
This 16 Days of Activism, we’re putting a spotlight on the gendered harms embedded in these policies and the urgent need for change.
Read the full report from our UNGA80 side event “Gendered Impacts of Externalization” to understand how we can re-center dignity, protection, and gender equality in migration policy:
