Women in Migration Network (WIMN) Internship Program

The Women in Migration Network (WIMN) offers a dynamic internship program designed for students and early-career professionals interested in the intersections of gender, migration, and social justice. As a global, membership-based network, WIMN works to amplify the voices and leadership of migrant and refugee women and gender-diverse people, while advancing rights-based advocacy, knowledge production, and movement building.

Our internships provide hands-on experience in an international, collaborative environment. Interns contribute meaningfully to ongoing projects while gaining exposure to global advocacy processes, research, communications, and network coordination. The program is flexible and can be tailored to meet academic requirements, including internships for course credit.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the internship, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a nuanced understanding of key issues at the intersection of gender and migration, including labor rights, climate displacement, and protection frameworks.
  • Apply research and analytical skills to real-world policy and advocacy challenges.
  • Strengthen professional competencies in areas such as communications, program coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Gain experience working within a global network, including collaboration across regions and with grassroots organizations.
  • Build critical awareness of feminist and rights-based approaches to migration.
  • Enhance written and verbal communication skills in a professional, multicultural setting.

Areas of Engagement

Depending on organizational needs and intern interests, tasks may include:

  • Supporting research and drafting reports, press releases, or policy briefs
  • Assisting with communications (social media, newsletters, campaigns)
  • Contributing to event planning and coordination
  • Engaging with member organizations and supporting network activities
  • Administrative and operational support

Partnership with Academic Institutions

WIMN welcomes partnerships with universities and academic programs to host interns for academic credit. We are happy to work with academic advisors to structure internships that meet institutional requirements, including supervision, learning objectives, and evaluation processes.

Academic advisors and program coordinators are invited to get in touch to establish formal agreements and facilitate placements for their students. We are committed to providing a meaningful, supervised learning experience that complements academic study with practical engagement.

It was my first time being in a room full of knowledgeable women advocates, and their kindness and passion inspired me greatly. This experience developed my ability to analyze policy through a unique feminist lens, which I will carry to influence my work moving forward.”
