IMRF & The Spotlight Report on Global Migration
WIMN engages in the International Migration Review Forum (IMRF) to influence negotiations, shape policy direction, and ensure that the voices of migrant women and grassroots leaders meaningfully guide global migration governance.
Why This Work Matters—Now
WIMN’s IMRF engagement is rooted in years of leadership across global migration policy spaces, working alongside feminist, migrant-rights, labor, and racial justice allies to shape strategies and shared advocacy positions. The IMRF—held only once every four years—is one of the most consequential moments for evaluating and advancing the Global Compact for Migration, bringing together governments, UN agencies, and civil society to determine the future of global migration policy.
By drawing on its deep experience and broad alliances, WIMN ensures that gender, rights, and lived experience are not sidelined but centered in these high-stakes debates.
What We Do:
WIMN’s IMRF work combines policy strategy, movement coordination, and feminist analysis to influence UN migration processes and strengthen civil society power. Our core activities include:
- Submitting input to Special Rapporteur reports and contributing Position Statements
- Participating in high-level roundtables and policy negotiations
- Producing the Spotlight Report on Global Migration (SRGM) to shape strategy, priorities, and demands
Across all of this work, WIMN advances rights-based policy change—addressing regularization, criminalization, labor rights, and more—while building collective strength through civil society caucusing and coordinated advocacy inside and outside UN spaces.
Impact
WIMN has contributed key resources and interventions that shape policy dialogue, including:
- The Spotlight Report on Global Migration
- Policy positions and briefing documents used by advocates and policymakers
- Panels, roundtables, and workstream inputs that elevate feminist and migrant-centered analysis
These contributions strengthen civil society influence and ensure that first-affected migrant voices meaningfully inform global migration governance.
What’s Next
WIMN is deepening its commitment to meaningful participation by ensuring that first-affected migrants gain access to the IMRF, contribute directly to negotiations, and help shape the gender roundtable and other critical spaces in the next IMRF cycle.
